AKRON, OH (Jan 23, 2016) —  More than 100 teams from around the region participated in the 2016 U.S. Youth Futsal Great Lakes Regional Futsal Championships in Akron, Ohio during the MLK weekend. The top two teams from each division also earned a spot to the National Championships in New Century, KS next month.

Ambassadors FC Pittsburgh was able to send seven teams to the tournament at the U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 age divisions for boys and the U16 division for girls. All the teams played well with four teams making the semi-finals and the U16 boys team able to defend their regional title from 2015 with a 6-3 win over ABK U16 Boys Academy in the championship game.

The team felt confident all weekend, playing in memory of their coach Lenny Muckle II, who passed away last year after leading the team to its first regional championship title. They wore black wristbands and some players shaved the initials ‘LM’ into their hair to honor the coach that impacted so many students in the Pittsburgh area. “The team is focused,” said club director Melia Major. “I don’t have to try and motivate them. They know why they are playing and they want to win.”
